Robert Putnam’s Book - Our Kids The American Dream in Crisis (May - June 2016)
TITLE: Robert Putnam’s Book: Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis
DATES: May 9 – June 13, 2016
REGISTRATION FEE: $45 (plus purchase of book)
This is another discussion and perspective looking at poverty through the lens of the “opportunity gap.” Robert Putnam will be a keynote during our Summer Leadership Conference on June 20, 2016. His latest book, Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis discusses that the opportunity gap for the “haves” and “have nots” is widening. The American Dream, that all children can have a chance to improve their lot in life is no longer as readily available as decades before. In the last chapter of the book, Putnam offers suggestions for what might be done to stop this decline and increase the chance for upwards mobility. Participants must buy their own copy of the book before the class starts. The book study will begin May 9th and end June 13th.
