Western North Carolina's classrooms have a rich variety of students. Are we as aware as we need to be? This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to review and discuss current thinking and resources on colorblindness, unconscious bias, colormute, structural and institutional racism, Young's Metaphor of the Birdcage, embedded stereotypes, internalized racism, stereotype threat, and racial microaggressions.  After we've established a common language, we'll discuss strategies for identifying and reducing prejudice and stereotyping. We will conclude with the creation of ideas for culturally responsive instruction and classrooms. Your instructors will be Dr. Boakye-Boaten and Dr. Tiece Ruffin, both current professors at UNCA.
