3-Day Basic WIDA Training of Trainer (ToT)

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and NRRC is proud to sponsor a 3 day Basic WIDA Trainer Training (9-3 each day) . The purpose of this training is to familiarize school and district staff with the new WIDA English Language Development Standards.

This Basic WIDA ToTs will explore the following components of the WIDA framework:

  • understanding the basic foundational principles that undergird the WIDA standards
  • organization, structure, and implementation of the WIDA English Language Development Standards for language and content instruction
  • use of the WIDA Model Performance Indicators (MPIs) that describe specific levels of English language proficiency for a language domain
  • use of the WIDA CAN DO Descriptors to plan differentiated instruction for ELLs

In addition, the training will include designing professional development about the WIDA standards for district and school staff.

Participants in the WIDA ToT will be equipped to develop professional development for additional district and school staff. Therefore, we recommend that districts register curriculum leaders - English Language Learner Program Coordinator/Supervisor, a District Curriculum Supervisor, an ESL Lead Teacher - or equivalent district staff who is regularly in charge of coordinating professional development for the district. Please note that this training is for curriculum leaders who have not been through this training before and need an introductory WIDA course.

Additionally, participants interested in learning some background information on the standards can go to http://wida.us to gather background information on the standards prior to the trainings. Two useful videos to watch are:

Participants must be able to attend all three days of the training. Since space is limited, please only register if you are able to complete three days of training. Thank you!
