Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship 2022 

The Porter Cason Institute for the Family at Tulane School of Social Work is virtually hosting George Faller, MS, LMFT and James Hawkins, LPC in presenting Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship on April 26, 2022 - April 29, 2022 starting at 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM CST. 

In this four-day Externship, participants will learn through a combination of lectures, observation of live clinical sessions and breakout groups for role-play exercises. Upon completion of this course, participants will:

• Identify the basic stages and steps of Emotionally Focused Therapy;
• Understand relationship stress from an attachment lense;
• Help couples recognize and de-escalate problematic patterns of interaction;
• Help couples understand the underlying attachment needs that drive these negative patterns;
• Help couples create and restore the emotional bond between them;
• Help couples repair attachment injuries by fostering healing within and between the couple.

George Faller, MS, LMFT is a retired Lieutenant of the NYC Fire Department, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New York and Connecticut and an Approved Supervisor for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. He is the founder and President of the New York Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). As an EFT Trainer, George teaches several classes at the Ackerman Institute for the Family (the oldest family institute in the United States) in NYC, is a board member of the Porter Cason Institute for the Family at Tulane University in New Orleans and is the director of training at the Center for Hope and Renewal in Greenwich, CT. Specializing in trauma, Family EFT and Self-of-the-Therapist issues, George is committed to bringing EFT to under-privileged populations and pushing the leading edge of effective therapy. George hopes his new book Sacred Stress contributes to the EFT movement of making our world a more secure place.

James “Doc Hawk” Hawkins, Ph.D., L.P.C., joins us from Arkansas. He enjoys sharing through conferences, podcasts, organizations, and churches on matters helping people with emotional and relational health. Doc Hawk brings a passion for sharing attachment theory and EFT to therapists, couples and families across cultures. “I have hosted leadership conferences, couples conferences, and racial reconciliation events (all integrating principles from attachment science),” James told the Colorado Center Team. If you've seen him speak, you know his talent for engaging an audience.

“My passion is to help people flourish in relationships ranging from marriage & family to organizational health, and community race relationships,” James says. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 11 years of experience. With a Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling, and PhD in Psychology and Counseling, James earned certification as an EFT Therapist and Supervisor. Currently, as a clinical coordinator, he helps lead a key counseling center in Arkansas.

3. Tulane School of Social Work is availabile for minimal technical support.

4. Attendance determines the number of credit hours to be awarded. Time will be deducted from the total credit hour(s) when attendance cannot be accounted. Time is counted in 15 minute increments.

5. If you choose to be visible on camera, please maintain a professional view. We kindly request limited distractions.

Reservations:

The reservation is $1000. Please complete the online form to register. Payments can be made using a Master Card or Visa.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event attendance of the program cannot be fulfilled, please notify the department 24 hours in advance to receive a full refund. A request to return reservation funds can be submitted to TSSW_CLL@wave.tulane.edu.

How will I receive the evaluation?

Evaluations are emailed the week following the program. If you have not completed the evaluation after two weeks, you will be contacted by a member of the Tulane School of Social Work community.

When will I receive my certificate?

Upon completion of the evaluation, certificates are sent manually and once a week until all have been distributed.
