EMDR Therapy Basic Training -- Part II

The Tulane School of Social Work Center For Life-Long Learning will offer EMDR Therapy Basic Training -- Part Two. This three-day training will take place on Aug. 14-16 at the Tulane School of Social Work, located at 127 Elk Place. The cost for the training will be $600, and partcipants will receive 20 CEU hours.

This is the second part of a training for therapists working in the non-profit sector, public sector agencies, for-profit agencies and those in private practice, as well as for students enrolled in a Master's or Doctorate level programs in the mental health field. EMDR Therapy Part II will train mental health clinicians in the standardized protocol for EMDR treatment and will meet all EMDR International Association’s (EMDRIA) requirements for basic training*. EMDR therapy is a comprehensive psychotherapy that accelerates the treatment of a wide range of pathologies and self-esteem issues related to disturbing events and present life conditions. This interactional, standardized approach has been empirically tested in over 20 randomized controlled studies with trauma patients, and hundreds of published case reports evaluating a considerable range of presenting complaints, including depression, anxiety, phobias, excessive grief, somatic conditions and addictions. EMDR therapy is guided by the Adaptive Information Processing model which addresses the unprocessed memories that appear to set the basis for a wide range of dysfunction. A number of neurophysiological studies have documented the rapid post treatment EMDR therapy effects.

*The training fee does not include case consultation, but non-profit employees and students can often get free or low cost consultation from independent consultants. 5 hours of consultation will be required after Part Two to receive the EMDR Basic Training Certificate of Completion (A list of EMDRIA Approved Consultants (or Consultants-in-training) consultants will be provided to participants.)

Registration Information and Fees
The registration fee is $600. Payments can be made by credit card via the online registration form or by check or money order (payable to Tulane School of Social Work).  If you pay by check, payment should be mailed immediately after completing the online registration form. Please fill out the registration form, but your final registration is predicated on receiving your payment. Once your payment is received, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration into the program, and you will be guaranteed a spot at the event. 

Refund Policy: Up to 30 days before the training, tuition is refundable less a $50 administrative fee

Lunch Options
During the workshop, you have the option to have lunch delivered to you which we will set up. The cost will be $8 per day; you can choose any number of days you wish. On Saturday and Sunday, the building must be secured, and the door locked to outside parties. Please bring your lunch. Or, if you prefer, you can purchase lunch which we will order. Please check the days you want us to include you in the lunch delivery. The lunches will be buffet style rather than separate packages.

There are two entrances to the school. You can enter through the main entrance located at 127 Elk Place or via the second floor skywalk from the Saratoga Parking Garage, located at 111 S. Saratoga St. NOTE -- on Saturday and Sunday, you must use the skywalk from the Saratoga because the front door will be locked.

There are various surface lots in close proximity to the school that you can use if you would like. The average price to park in a ground level lot is $4 per day. If you park in a ground lot, please use the school’s main entrance located at 127 Elk Place and take the elevator to the third floor. The Saratoga Parking Garage is the closest parking garage and is located at 111 S. Saratoga St. The daily rate for the garage is $7, but the garage does have direct access to the school via the skywalk on the second floor. To find the skywalk, just follow the yellow posts in the parking garage once you exit the elevator lobby on the second floor in the garage. Once you enter 127 Elk Place, go down the hall to the elevators and take them to the third floor. 

Trainer Bios
Carol Miles MSW, LCSW is a clinical social worker specializing in individual, family and group psychotherapy, maintains a private practice in Covington and New Orleans, LA with a broad spectrum of clients, and also provides consultation for therapists developing skills in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Carol, a graduate of LSU School of Social Work specializing in clinical social work, has over 30 years experience as a social worker in clinical, administration, and marketing with the public and private sectors. Among her areas of expertise are working with clients who have eating disorders and trauma.  She has additional training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and is certified by EMDRIA in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Carol has often presented at state wide conferences and to general audiences on topics ranging from eating disorders, assertiveness, EMDR, DBT and developing a private practice. She is a current member of EMDRIA and LACSW.  She has taught as an adjunct professor at the Tulane School of Social Work since 1998.
