Ned's Birthday Bash, The Ned Jaquith Foundaion Potluck, BBQ, and Campout

The Birthday Bash

July 25th 2015 is the  Ned Jaquith Foundation's annual bamboo campout and BBQ potluck fundraiser! Proceeds from the camp out's activities will benefit the Ned Jaquith Foundation, which supports bamboo research. We will be holding two special bamboo related classes, and folks are invited to wander through the groves, ask bamboo questions, visit with friends old and new, and partake in a potluck which will include sumptuous oysters. Tents will be pitched and participants can fall asleep to the rustle of bamboo leaves and the music of the frogs. The following day, July 26th, the party will continue at the Hoyt Arboretum in Portland Oregon, where the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the American Bamboo Society will host vendors of bamboo plants and bamboo related products, who will be happy to help you. There will be a bamboo lecture, a free bamboo fan making workshop, and a rare bamboo auction at the end of the day. More details of each event are below, with a helpful registration link included.

The Potluck

5 pm

Bring a dish to share! We will have fresh caught oysters, cake, and lemonade. Feel free to bring things to put on the grill, a favorite beverage, and a side dish to share. People can wander through the groves and learn about bamboo. There will be Grantees reports, and a  guest speaker during the evening (details to follow) A camp fire will be lit at dusk and folks are encouraged to bring music instruments to jam around the fire. Potluck starts at 5 pm.

Silent Auction 1:30-7:30

Live Auction 7:30

Ned was a great collector of all things bamboo. Silent auction items will include large winnowing baskets and hand painted scarves by Carol Loverde. There are a few special bamboo cultivars that originated at Bamboo Garden, under Ned's careful eye.  They will be among the bamboos live auctioned, bringing attention to Ned's special contributions to horticulture. All auction proceeds will benefit the non-profit Ned Jaquith Foundation and are tax deductible.

The Camp Out

3 pm July 25th- 10 am July 26th

When they arrive around 3 to 4 PM, campers can set up tents in or around their favorite bamboo grove. We will have a campfire after the potluck and events. The camp out ends at 10 am Sunday and campers are asked to take their tents, all garbage, and potluck items. Campers may choose to gather at a local breakfast place while vendors for the Portland Bamboo Festival leave to set up. There is no fee for the camp out or potluck but donations to the Ned Jaquith Foundation are appreciated.
