Reduce, Reuse, Up-cycle! - NEFLIN (03/12/21)

Please note: Due to the impact of social distancing, seats for this workshop are extremely limited.

Limited seating available. Please email us to enroll.

This is a great workshop for teen and adult librarians who are eco-conscious and on a budget!

Upcycling is the art of recycling objects, by giving them a new purpose. Participants will learn to reuse items in great craft projects like turning old books and magazines into artwork and making t-shirts into book bags or aprons. You will also learn how to employ found material for urban gardening ideas.  About 15 projects will be demonstrated.

No art or crafting experience needed! You just need the love of learning and reusing!

Example Projects:

  • T-shirt: turn into tote bag or apron, use for weaving
  • Books/maps: create a floating shelf, light switch plate, origami wallet
  • Old plates: make a pendant
  • Plastic bottles: build self-watering planters or a watering “can"

Virtual Trainer: Marie Escriba, Duval County Public Schools

After more than ten years of teaching art in a public library setting, Marie Escriba is now an art educator at Duval County Public Schools.

She holds a MA in art education from the University of Florida and has years of experience training library staff and preschool teachers.

This is an in-person class. Attendance information will be emailed one week ahead.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
