    What they've been saying...

Your workshop was one of the best I have attended.  We are utilizing the material we learned in our classroom constantly. -- Dena

Thank you for the opportunity to attend.  It provided me with the best teaching strategies I have seen in many years. I have been struggling with new ideas to teach writing and this was just what I needed to push forward with my lesson plans for this year. -- Bonnie

ENGAGING AND ENERGIZING TEACHERS FROM SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE --

Teachers are invited to connect with McKeel Academy of Technology teachers for a unique interactive learning and networking experience. It starts with attending one of the McKeel IBIS Project Workshops including this one with our partner North East Florida Educational Consortium.   Our teachers will demonstrate new, innovative ideas to engage students in technology integration and literacy. Funded through a Florida Department of Education Instructional Instructional Best Practices Grant, these free workshops provide ready to use resources, hands-on activities, and a look at successful classroom strategies. The focus is on helping teachers see learning gains in the areas of reading and writing for their students, and using technology in new and exciting ways. Attending a workshop is where the networking and collaborations begin for participants and trainers

WORKSHOP SESSIONS INCLUDE ENGAGING PRESENTATIONS AND READY TO USE RESOURES FOCUSED ON TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION, READING AND WRITING:

    SESSIONS INCLUDE:

*Quick Edits -- Grammar: in the minds of most peopLe and even some teachers, it's a bad word!  In this session, you will learn a new approach that invites students to discover what's right about brilliant sentences instead of the old method (like DOL) of trying to find mistakes in horrible ones.  We will focus on stealthily inserting rules of grammar into your existing reading and writing plans, making the learning outcome more authentic and useful, which will result in higher retention of key ideas for your students... and less frustration for you!

*Make Mine Rocky Road: Using Word Choice to Flavor Your Writing -- What are 'vanilla' and 'rocky road' words? Let me share the recipe for identifying and applying vivid and sophisticated word choice to enhance writing.  Using a variety of fiction and non-fiction mentor text, group discussion, and activities, I will demonstrate using the right word and boosting the flabor of a summary, plus other ways students can apply flavor to their writing.   You will have strategies to immediately implement in your classroom and know how to use them!

*Beyond Google - How to Navigate Through a Sea of Information -- If your students drown in Google, come learn how to throw them a life raft.  This will make you a smarter captain of the research sea, and in turn teach your students how to REALLY research online.

PLUS SEE THE STRATEGIES IN ACTION WITH HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES!

Our PRESENTERS: Elvira Randall, 6-12 English Teacher & Tampa Bay Area Writing Project Consultant,  Cathy Dyer, 6-12 Language Arts Teacher & Tampa Bay Area Writing Project Consultant and Melissa Jenkins, 6-12 Reading & English Teacher & Lumens Representative
