ENGAGING AND ENERGIZING TEACHERS FROM ALL SCHOOLS ACROSS FLORIDA -- Teachers are invited to connect with McKeel Academy of Technology teachers for a unique interactive learning and networking experience. It starts with attending one of the McKeel IBIS Project Workshops being held on the McKeel Academy of Technology campus, or on location at one of our education consortium partners or hosted by partnering school.   Our teachers will demonstrate new, innovative ideas to engage students. Funded through a Florida Department of Education 6-12 Instructional Best Practices Grant, these free workshops provide ready to use resources, hands-on lessons, and a look at how to implement these successful strategies into any subject area. The focus is on helping teachers see learning gains in the areas of reading and writing for their students, and using technology in new and exciting ways. Attending a workshops is where the networking and collaboration begins for participants and trainers!

LadibugTARGETED SCHOOLS RECEIVE FREE DOCUMENT CAMERAS  ~                   Lumens Ladibug Document Cameras are an innovative technology that helps excite students and are great tools that teachers can use to teach any subject area.  Lumens Integration Inc. is an important partner in the McKeel IBIS Project. Each targeted low performing (C, D or F) middle/high charter school can receive up to three (3) document cameras (valued at $300 each) to help get teachers and students engaged and excited about the educational opportunities this technology provides.  We will demonstrate to  workshop participants how document cameras can be used for engaging student learning and provide you with dozens of ideas for using doc cams in you classroom.

WORKSHOP SESSIONS INCLUDE HANDS-ON ENGAGING PRESENTATIONS FOCUSED ON            TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION, READING AND WRITING

     Here are the sessions:

*Great Finds in Content -- Digging for word choice and details is like finding a treasure within the text.  Learn how this technique can be used to create deeper summaries of content and creative applications.  The new standards of curriculum ask students to think deeper about a text and encourages teachers to provide higher-level questions for all students.  Learn how to apply critical thinking strategies using mentor text and interactive activities.

*Not a Reading Teacher?!  -- Are you not a reading teacher but have to teach reading? Do you need ideas for taking a passage to a deeper level?  This session takes one reading passage and navigates you through questioning, incorporating technology and comparisons to teach reading for content.  Participants will receive a Depth of Knowledge educator's wheel and learn how to use it in their classrooms.

*Quick Edits -- Grammar: in the minds of most people and even some teachers, it's a bad word! Learn a new approach that invites students to discover what's right about brilliant sentences instead of the old methods (like DOL) of trying to find mistakes in horrible ones.  We will focus on stealthily inserting rules of grammar into your existing reading and writing plans, making the learning outcome more authentic and useful.  The results will  include higher retention of key ideas for your students... and less frustration for YOU!

Using Six-Word Memoirs as a Critical Thinking Tool -- Are you looking for ways to challenge your students to summarize, find theme, and analyze key people and processes in your curriculum?  Six-word memoirs can help you accomplish these goals.  Plus, if you use them as a starting point for written response, you can easily assess student understanding while satisfying the new Florida writing standards, which are cross curricular.  The six-word format provides a laser-tuned focus for the students as they write, and the process helps them create detailed, evidence-based elaborations.

Technology Tools for the Classroom -- This hands-on session is designed to reach both the technologically savvy and technologically challenged.  You will explore technology that will support the Florida standards no matter what you teach. Best of all, you will learn to use free internet sites that not only make it fun for your students, but great for you as the teacher!

PLUS SEE HOW THE STRATEGIES ARE USED IN THE CLASSROOM!
