Your workshop was one of the best I have attended. We are utilizing the material we learned in our classroom constantly. -- Dena
Thank you for the opportunity to attend. It provided me with the best teaching strategies I have seen in many years. I have been struggling with new ideas to teach writing and the session on sentence structures was just what I need to push forward with my lesson plans for this year. -- Bonnie

It starts with attending one of the McKeel IBIS Project Workshops including this one with our partner Panhandle Area Educational Consortium. Our teachers will demonstrate new, innovative ideas to engage students in technology integration and literacy. Funded through a Florida Department of Education Instructional Best Instructional Practices Grant, these free workshops provide ready to use resources, hands-on lessons, and a look at successful classroom strategies. The focus is on helping teachers see learning gains in the areas of reading and writing for their students, and using technology in new and exciting ways. Attending a workshop is where the networking and collaborations begin for participants and trainers!
WORKSHOP SESSIONS INCLUDE ENGAGING PRESENTATIONS AND READY TO USE RESOURCES FOCUSED ON TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION, READING AND WRITING:
Sessions planned for this Workshop:
*Using 6 Word Memoirs as a Critical Thinking Tool -- Are you looking for ways to challenge your students to summarize, find theme, and analyze key people and processes in your curriculum? Six Word Memoirs can help you accomplish these and more. Use them for a starting point for written response and you can easliy assess student understanding while satisfying the new Florida writing standards, which are cross curricular. The six-word format provides a laser-tuned focus for the students as they write and the process helps them create detailed, evidence-based elaborations.
*Not a Reading Teacher?! -- Are you not a reading teacher but have to teach reading? Do you need ideas for taking a passage to a deeper level? This session takes one reading passage and navigates you through questioning, incorporating technolgy and comparisons to teach reading for content. Participants will receive a Depth of Knowledge Educator's Wheel and learn how to use it with your students!
*Technology Shootout! -- Crazier than the Wild West! This session will move fast and furious through different apps you can use in the classroom. Even if you are technologically shy, we guarantee you will find your new favorite app in all the fury!
*Make Mine Rocky Road – Using Word Choice to Flavor Your Writing -- What are ‘vanilla’ and ‘rocky road’ words? Let us share the recipe for identifying and applying vivid and sophisticated word choice to enhance writing. Using a variety of fiction and non-fiction mentor text, group discussion, and activities will demonstrate using the right word and boosting the flavor of a summary plus other ways students can apply flavor to their writing.
PLUS SEE THE STRATEGIES IN ACTION WITH HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES!
