Pension income can provide a foundation for our clients' income in retirement. Therefore affecting how much a client may need to save for retirement. Consequently, if that pension income were to be reduced, it could greatly affect some of our clients and the future they wish to build. But what is the cost to keep those pensions available? Governments at all levels are facing pension funding crises. This has led to a reduction in public services and, in some cases, reductions in promised benefits to retirees. Please join us for our May meeting where Pete Constant will provide us a national overview of the crisis, as well as an overview of the issue in California and how it may impact employees, retirees and taxpayers. About the Speaker(s):
Pete Constant, Chief Executive Officer
Retirement Security Initiative Pete Constant brings a wealth of pension reform experience to his position as Chief Executive Officer of the Retirement Security Initiative. In this role, Pete designs and implements strategic plans in collaboration with RSI's board of directors, leads the organization in its advocacy efforts and manages day-to-day operations. Prior to his work at RSI, Pete was Director of the Pension Integrity Project and Senior Fellow at the Reason Foundation. There he led the team that designed, drafted and negotiated the successful public safety pension reform plan for the state of Arizona. Prior to that, he served as Council Member for the City of San Jose from 2007-2014, where he served as trustee on the city's two pension plans. Pete began his career in law enforcement as a police officer for the City of San Jose, where he served for 11 years until an on-duty injury forced his early retirement. Pete earned Bachelor and Masters degrees from Saint Mary’s College of California and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of LaVerne.
