Application has been made for 6 TELEMENTAL HEALTH hours for LCSW, LMFT, LPC, and CAC in accordance with the guidelines established by the Georgia Composite Board. This workshop will meet the 6 hour licensing requirement for "telemental health."

Though not approved by other agencies, physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and others may be able to apply these education credits under other areas of their licensing board requirements. Please check with your specific board's guidelines.

Workshop Description:

This workshop will explore Telemental health Counseling, looking at what constitutes TMH Counseling, technologies available, and being HIPPA conforming. An assortment of technologies will be reviewed in-depth to allow attendees to evaluate their needs.

We will also explore the legal and ethical guidelines with the GA Composite Board's new Telemental health Rule (135-11), ACA, AMHCA, and NBCC. Case studies will be utilized to evaluate the attendees understanding of the requirements associated with the law.

Learning Objectives: Once the trainee completes this workshop he/she will:

  • Gain the ability to explain the definition of Telemental Health Counseling (TMH).
  • Describe HIPPA conforming technology and the various technologies available.
  • Demonstrate how to evaluate, establish, and conduct TMH Counseling.
  • Discuss the "TeleMental Health" law in Georgia as it relates to the counseling relationship, including the legal and ethical guidelines for TMH, impact on one's professional license, scope of practice, and the telemental health rules of practicing across state lines.

 About Our Presenter

Jeff Hughes, Ed.S., LPC, CPCS
Peak Solutions, LLC 

Jeff Hughes is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) in Georgia. He earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma in 1979; MEd in Community Counseling in 1998 from the University of West Georgia; EdS in Community Counseling with a specialization in Clinical Supervision in 1999 fornt he University of West Georgia; and completed doctoral coursework from 1999-2001 in Counselor education at Ohio University specializing in Clinical Supervision, Marriage and Family, and Multicultural Counseling.

Jeff has 18 plus years of experience with in-patient addictions, community mental health, college counseling centers and private practice. He worked with college students at three different college counseling centers from 1999-2016. He last worked as the Associate Director of Counseling Services at Kennesaw State University - Marietta Campus from 2002-2016 serving in the role of clinical servicwes coordinator and training supervisor of interns.

Jeff is currently self-employed as the owner of Peak Solutions, LLC, which specializes in professional development workshops fo rclinicians, clinical supervision fo rclinicians seeking licensure, consultation, and counseling for people in the helping professions.

Jeff's clinical interests are EMDR, clinical supervision, trauma, mindfulness, spirituality, people with Asperger's and veterans. He has been active in professional organizations since graduate school and is currently the CPCS Chair for the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of GA.

In his leisur etime, Jeff is an avid movie buff, nature photographer, and sports enthusiast, especially when it comes to his Oklahoma Sooners, Dallas Cowboys, and Atlanta Braves. His is also the current President of the OU Alumni Association of Atlanta.
