Workshop Description:

In order to effectively treat substance use disorders, and achieve a favorable prognosis fo rrecovery, it is imperative that the client be placed in the appropriate level of care at the beginning of treatment. The initial substance use assessment is critical in obtaining all necessary information to formulate treatment planning and level of care placement. This presentation will review some of the common screening and assessment instruments currently being used in the field of addiction. Using the current edition of The ASAM Criteria, participants will be intruduced to the six dimensions of a multidimensional assessment, determine dimensional interactions and priorities when conducting substance use disorder assessments and how to address imminent danger and immediate needs for level of care placement. ASAM's risk matrix will be introduced and ASAM PPC-2r Risk Rating Crosswalk will be utilized in case scenarios to determine appropriate level of care placement. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a multidimensional substance use disorder assessment using case scenarios with follow-up discussion.

Learning Objectives: Once the trainee completes this workshop he/she will:

  • Participants will be able to list and describe the six dimensions of a multidimensional substance use disorder (SUD) assessment.
  • Participants will be able to describe ASAM's risk matrix and apply to six dimensions of SUD assessment.
  • Participants will be able to list and discuss current screening and assessment instruments used in the field of addiction.
  • Participants will demonstrate how to complete a thorough SUD assessment using ASAM criteria and case scenarios.

 About Our Presenter

Kelly Camarata, LPC, CAADC

Kelly Camarata joined Talbott Recovery’s Business Development Team in May 2013 as a Business Development Representative and was appointed Director of Business Development in July 2014. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Mercer University in Macon, GA and received her Master’s of Education degree in professional counseling from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA.

Kelly has worked in various treatment settings as a teacher, school counselor, and adult/family/child/adolescent counselor. She gained experience treating chemical dependency while working as an intensive outpatient therapist conducting family/individual and group therapy. Kelly is currently a licensed professional counselor and a certified clinical advanced alcohol and drug counselor (CAADC) in the state of Georgia.
