 Psychopharmacology Part 1:
Alcoholism, Depression, and Anxiety

   Richard Amar, M.D.

A concise review of adjunctive medications used to treat alcoholism, as well as a review of the pharmacology of antidepressants.

Learning Objectives

  • List medications that are used in the treatment of alcoholism.
  • Describe how antidepressants exert their therapeutic effect in depression and anxiety states.
  • List some of the distinguishing factors (side effects, differences in efficacy) between the most commonly prescribed antidepressants.

 

About Our Presenter  

Richard Amar, M.D.

Dr. Amar joined Talbott Recovery as a Staff Addiction Psychiatrist in 2011. He obtained his medical degree from MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 1999. Dr. Amar completed his General Psychiatry residency at Emory University School of Medicine in 2003, as well as his Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship in 2008. Prior to joining the staff at Talbott Recovery, he worked with veterans for eight years at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he was the Medical Director of the Intensive Outpatient Evening Program and the STaR (Substance Abuse, Trauma, and Recovery) Program.
