This workshop will look at the needs of Adolescents Young Adults in treatment and how to adjust our expectations to meet their unique needs.  We will also explore what an effective treatment program for Adolescents and Young Adults looks like.  The effects that substance abuse has on personality development, on social learning, on cognitive development, on the development of coping skills and on self esteem will be examined.

Objectives are as follows:

  • To look at the risk factors that pre-dispose youth to abuse mood-altering substances.
  • How to conduct a diagnostic interview with an adolescent or young adult.
  • How to determine the role that family dynamics play in the development of addiction with adolescents and young adults.
  • Look at the drugs adolescents and young adults are abusing.
  • To determine what recovery looks like for adolescents and young adults.
