Recognizing Addiction in Primary Care & Integrating Primary Care with Addiction Treatment
Jefferson C. Jones, M.D. & Kannon Haskins, M.D.
Presentation to include discussion on diagnosing and recognition of chemical dependency in primary care. The treatment of addiction in primary care will be examined. Detoxification as an outpatient and use of BuprenorphineŽ and NaloxoneŠ in an outpatient setting, its uses and limitations will be discussed.

Dr Jeff Jones is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Georgia Academy of Family Practice, Muscogee County Medical Society, Medical Association of Georgia, and The American Society of Addiction Medicine. He is board certified in Family Practice and Chemical Dependency and has achieved Fellowship in the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is licensed in Georgia and Alabama.
Dr. Jones earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Practice at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia.
Kannon Haskins, M.D. (photo not available)
Kannon Haskins, MD, attended Furman University (1983-1987) where he was pre-med on an Army ROTC scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He attended medical school at Medical of College of Georgia, (1987-1991). Dr. Haskins completed a year of internal medicine as an internship at the University of Alabama in Montgomery (1991-1992). He went on active duty with the U.S. Army in 1992 and was stationed in Germany, where he practiced medicine, and was the commander of two clinics (1992-1996). In 1996, Dr. Haskins completed his military obligations, moved back to Manchester, opened a medical office, had admission privileges at two hospitals and two nursing homes, and was Medical Director of the Roosevelt Institute for Rehabilitation from 1998-2002. In January 2002, he retired from medicine due to medical complications. Dr. Haskins resides with his wife and daughter in Manchester, GA, where he grew up.
