Sandra Taylor-Anderson, PhD, LPC, CACII, CCS, BRI-I, GCAD-III

This workshop will look at loving a person in active addiction and how to continue loving the same person in his/her recovery. We will explore a systematic method to support a recovering couple so that the partner is not focused on the recovering addict and neglecting their own self-care.  By “recovering couple,” I mean an addict that is clean and sober and the partner who is in recovery from obsessive caretaking. Spirituality and the role it plays with recovering couples, strong communication skills along with exploring how to deal with the emotional ups and downs of early recovery will be discussed.

Objectives:

  1. Will develop a map to assist the recovering couple see their relationship in a new way.
  2. Examine how mindfulness helps heal the relationship with a partner in recovery.
  3. How to maintain boundaries in a recovery relationship.
  4. Explore what sexuality would look like in a recovering relationship.
