Autism : Sex, Puberty & Relationships
A collaboration with the Murrieta Valley SEPAC and Murrietta Valley USD
National speakers Jerry & Mary Newport, Catherine Davies, M.Ed, Melissa Dubie, MS and Stacy F. Everson will discuss hygiene issues, touching self or others inappropriately in public, undressing in public, talking about sex, masturbation, dating skills, stalking behavior and more!
The morning will start off with a keynote by Jerry and Mary Newport, popular international speakers who have written several books on autism subjects including Autism - Asperger's and Sexuality: Puberty and Beyond, and inspired a movie, Mozart and The Whale based on their initial contact and challenge of a relationship. They have been featured on 60 Minutes. Jerry and Mary will bring their experience as adults with Asperger’s to discuss the sex and sexuality, issues with relationships and abuse Their fascinating, touching, and often humorous perspective on living on the spectrum makes their books and presentations intriguing and informative.
In the afternoon, you will your choice of two breakouts:
- Sex & Relationships for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities by Stacy F Everson. is the founder and Executive Director of SEEDS Education, Inc and a Registered Nurse with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and Public Health. She has national certification in developmental disabilities and family life education. She specializes in social-sexual education, speaking/trainings, work-shops & conferences, coordinating and collaboration with other agencies in creating effective educational tools and opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities
- Intimate Relationships and Sexual Health: High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders/Asperger’s. Catherine Davies, M.Ed., M.Sc., C.Psychol, LMHC and Melissa Dubie, MS. Authors of Intimate Relationships and Sexual Health. Both ladies are Educational Consultants at the Indiana Resource Center for Autism at Indiana University. Catherine has over 25 years experience working with children and adults with ASD and was a special education teacher, school psychologist and clinical psychologist in the UK. Melissa has worked in the public school system for 27 years with students with disabilities including ASD. During this time, she was a teacher, coordinator, coach and consultant for individuals from preschool through high school.
