MadCity Mile: iRecycle and Kayak Regatta

Join us for the 2018 4th Fest, iRecycle and Kayak Regatta at Madisonville City Park. The iRecycle race will take place first as paddlers race to one side of the lake and back. The Kayak Regatta consists of racers paddling a 1-mile course on the outskirts of the lake. The winners of each race will choose a 501(c)(3) that will receive a $250 donation.

The iRecycle Regatta will be the first race.  If the watercraft survives this race, they are eligible to participate in the MadCity Mile.

iRecycle Regatta Rules

The objective of this race is to design and build a one or two person-powered floatation device.

At least 70% of the materials used to build the watercraft must come from the waste stream (things that would normally be put in the recycling bin or trash).  The remaining 30% of the materials can be new (tape, etc.).  The race will take place at the Madisonville City Park Lake with check-in close to the boat ramp.  Check-in begins at 5:00 pm and the race begins at 6:00 pm.

Rules:

  1. Only one (1) or two (2) people per floatation device allowed.
  2. Qualifying watercraft can be no longer than 6’ x 12’.
  3. The watercraft must be propelled by human power.  This may include oars or pedals, but no motors.  Crew members must power their boats from inside or on top of the craft.  No pushing or pulling.  Swimming is not acceptable propulsion.
  4. Your choices are as wide as your imagination, but glass, kegs, wood, Styrofoam, scrap metal or anything toxic is not allowed.  Old flotation devices may not be used to construct your watercraft.  For instance, an old surfboard or boogie board cannot be used as the base for your recycled boat.
  5. If the body of the boat sinks completely below the surface of the water, the participant will be disqualified.
  6. The racer must propel his/her watercraft across the lake and back.  The fastest time wins.
  7. Everyone participating in this race must sign a liability waiver.
  8. No entry fee to participate.
