As deacons do the work of connecting our faith communities to God’s work in the neighborhood, opportunities for pastoral challenges arise. How does a deacon embody the love, justice, and Good News of Jesus in the midst of the soup kitchen, the adaptive challenges of their faith community, and in their daily lives? How does a deacon care for their own spiritual life in the midst of the challenging work of serving a broken world and a church in the midst of change? Those in their second year of formation for the diaconate will meet six times in person to work and pray through case studies, reflecting on their experiences in their internships and drawing on best practices in pastoral presence and conflict management. This seminar meets the canonical requirements for deacons in the area of ‘Human Awareness.’
