Vandalism of Community First Champion Center Job Site Tour & Discussion 
Topic Summary
What would you do if you showed up to your project and there was unimaginable vandalism done at the site? That’s exactly what happened at the Community First Champion Center on the morning of January 23, 2019. 

Listen to a brief presentation on how the Miron Construction Project Team handled the situation to deal with a significant insurance claim and investigation while mitigating the situation to get the project back on track as quickly as possible. The presentation will be followed by a tour of the newly opened facility.

Learning Objectives
Attendees will learn how to deal with following items related to a project disaster:

  • Communication and cooperation with authorities to facilitate an investigation
  • Properly accumulating and gathering information to support various insurance claims on policies held by multiple parties: builders risk and property.
  • Developing a plan to support a project recovery and get the project back on schedule.

Presenter Biographies
Mike Pernaski | Project Superintendent | Miron Construction
Mike was the Project Superintendent for the Champions Center project.  Utilizing his years of construction experience, Mike will work directly with the project manager and the construction team to manage all phases of construction activity. Mike is responsible for the daily on-site management of construction, including field labor, subcontractors, equipment, tools, and materials. Mike will direct all field personnel and coordinate all subcontractor activities while monitoring schedule, quality, and budget. First and foremost, he will maintain a risk-free work environment and ensure the safety of construction crews and all who access the site.

Allison Matz | Project Manager | Miron Construction
Allison was the Project Manager for the Champions Center project.  Allison manages all project activities including, but not limited to, preliminary planning, budget development, financial control, value engineering assessments, scheduling, coordination of construction activity, project closeout, and owner occupancy. Allison is responsible for regular communication with the architectural team and Owner regarding items related to budget, constructability, bidding, and schedule.

Sara Gorenchan | Claims Manager | Miron Construction
Sara was responsible for handling the vandalism claim on the Champions Center.  Sara’s skills and strong attention to detail supports our aggressive, proactive, and professional claims management efforts. Her performance has allowed Miron the opportunity to be a leader in controlling post-incident costs which shields our customers from third party litigation and also reduces the cost of doing business with our customers. Sara’s experience allows Miron the ability to be competitive and to adjust our systems and procedures to any Owner-controlled insurance programs.
