Evaluation of Permanent Impairment Rating Edition 6 Session III

The purpose of an impairment rating is to represent impairment and estimate the degree to which an injury diminishes an individual's capacity to meet the demands of active daily living or a particular profession or occupation. The Whole Person Impairment rating is a key component in the legal determination of an injured person’s Catastrophic. Claimants with injuries meeting the criteria of Catastrophic Impairment may have access to a higher level of benefits for medical care and rehabilitation, attendance care and case management.

We are pleased to present a didactic course dealing with the methods of evaluation necessary to determine the presence, nature and extent of Whole Person Impairment of musculoskeletal, neurological and other body systems, utilizing the Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, sixth edition. The process of Catastrophic determination evaluations will be introduced and discussed using case studies.

Program Topics 

  • The history, methods and responsibility of rating permanent impairment 
  • Guides in the evaluation of Worker’s Compensation (United States), Auto Insurance Regulations and Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS)
  • Rating spinal, upper extremity, lower extremity, CNS, pain-related impairment(s)
  • Criteria for Catastrophic Impairment determination according to the SABS
  • Case studies of Catastrophic determination assessments and the role of the interdisciplinary team members involved in these cases
  • Mental and behavioural impairments and how they can impact on the four domains of functioning
  • The medical-legal aspects of catastrophic assessments, case law and arbitration decisions
  • Comparative analysis of the fourth, fifth, and sixth editions of the Guides

Certification
Upon course completion, participants may be certifiedby the American Board of Forensic Professionals(ABFP) by completing a take home exam and submitting an additional fee of $185  click Application for Impairment Rating Certification
