BBQ for Building is a fundraising event benefiting Habitat Birmingham’s housing ministry. Event proceeds help build a house to sale to a low-income family in need of quality, affordable housing in our community
Calling all backyard Bar-B-Que teams – Fire up your grills and smokers!
Team registration fee includes up to four t-shirts, four event armbands, and team gear that includes supplies needed for judging and People’s Choice (Styrofoam boxes, serving cups, forks, gloves, paper towels, and trash bags).
Backyard Division Cookoff
Registration is $250 and will allow teams to compete in all categories with cash prizes on the line plus a year’s worth of bragging rights!
Cooking teams will provide judges with six pieces of chicken and six ribs in a provided styrofoam container at designated times to be judged. Plus, teams will enter one or both People’s Choice Categories with samples to share to event attendees (approximately 1,000). While this is not an Alabama BBQ Association sanctioned event, we will do our best to adhere to their backyard competition rules and regulations.
Grand Champion winner will receive $1,500 and a trophy
Reserve Grand Champion winner will receive $500 and a trophy
People’s Choice: Best Pork Butt
Registration is $100
Teams that choose to compete in this category will provide pork butt samples to event attendees (approximately 1,000) in provided plastic cups. If the attendees like your butt the best, they will put their marker into a provided jar at the voting table.
Winner of People’s Choice Best Pork Butt will receive $300 and a trophy
People’s Choice: Creative Cooking
Registration is $75
Teams that choose to compete in this category will provide samples of their favorite dessert, appetizer, soup, side, or meat – anything goes, except pork butt – to event attendees (approximately 1,000) in provided plastic cups. If the attendees like your dish the best, they will put their marker into a provided jar at the voting table.
Winner of the Creative Cooking category will receive $150 and a trophy
