Alleviating the Impact of Isolation and Loneliness on Seniors

Wednesday, May 25, 2022

Isolation has always been an issue for seniors but since the onset of the Covid pandemic the impact of social isolation has been devasting to our elderly population in Ohio. Research shows that isolation leads to dietary problems, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, chronic depression, onset of “brain fog”, self-neglect and a host of other maladies in those over 60. Attend to discuss the impact of chronic loneliness, isolation and idleness in the elderly and learn recommended interventions to help isolated seniors get back to more active lives again.

  • Examine the impact of social distancing and isolation brought on by Covid 19 and it’s health harming impacts on the elderly.
  • Experience a “Loneliness Assessment” to use with clients to determine their socialization needs and isolation risks.
  • Address barriers to social interaction for the housebound elderly.
  • Consider community resources and design individualized plans for elderly clients to resume more active lives post pandemic.
