Depression and the Elderly:  Its Causes, Characteristics, and Cures 

                                                                 DESCRIPTION
Think for a moment about all the people you know who are in their 60's or older.  Did you know that depression among them is one of those seemingly epidemics in our society?  It very often goes undiagnosed because of the stigma which keeps people silent about their thoughts and feelings.  Those who are in their "Golden Years" have a unique struggle with this debilitating disorder.  In this seminar, participants will look at definitions of the types of depression, they will learn the major causes of depression, and the symptoms of each.  They will study the unique characteristics suicidality among them.  Lastly, they will discuss best practices treatment and cures among this population.

                                                                OBJECTIVES

  • Define the types of depression and the major causes of depression among their clients based on the DSM-V
  • Examine the symptoms of each type of depression and the unique characteristics of depression among the elderly
  • Learn about suicidality among the elderly
  • Discuss best practices treatment and cures for depression among the elderly

                                        PRESENTER:  THOMAS O'REILLY, MS, PCC
Thomas is a results-oriented, compassionate solution facilitator with over 35 years of combined experience in management, counseling, public speaking, and helping others.  He is an analytical thinker who finds ways to invest in people and motivate them to achieve their full potential.  Thomas has proven expertise in the areas of problem assessment and diagnosis, needs analysis and plan development, counseling and therapy interventions, training and public speaking, marketing and business development, and conflict resolution and mediation skills.

                                                        CONTINUING EDUCATION
Approved by the CSWMFTB (MCST10188284) for social workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists continuing education for 3 CEUs.  Nurses may use continuing education credits approved by the CSWMFTB for social workers to meet their CNE requirement.  BELTSS approved (34141-001-C-18).

                                                  REGISTRATION AND REFUNDS
The deadline for registration is October 11, 2018.  Registration is not complete without payment or invoice information.  Late registrations are accepted if space is available and will include a $10 late fee.  A refund will be made ONLY for cancellations received five working days prior to the training.  If cancellation is received less than five working days prior to the training, a credit can be issued for use at another training within the next year.  If notice of cancellation is not received before the date of training, no refund will be issued.  PLEASE NOTE:  No shows will be charged the full registration fee.
