Area Agency on Aging Educational Seminar

Working With Very Different Generations

 Thursday, July 12, 2018

                                                                           DESCRIPTION
The younger generation complains the older people "just don't understand; they're out of touch!"  The older generation laments the young'uns "think they know everything" and have little respect for their elders.  At the heart of all this is that fact that each decade of our life experience is vastly different than the previous ones, and we are shaped by the "times" we grow up in.  The 20's -  40's wrestled with The Great Depressing and WWII.  The Boomers had the Industrial Revolution, Rock & Roll, and the increased volume of single-parent families through divorce.  The Millennials have their own era-specific elements, as do Gen-X, Y, and Z'ers.  This seminar will look at some of the major differences of each generation.  They will learn what researchers say about how each generation learns and participates in work activities.  They will also have an open discussion with other participants about what they think of the seminar content.  They will define five positive qualities for each generational subgroup alive today, as it relates to their clients, and process the content they learned in group dynamic, and how to utilize that with their clients.
