We are pleased to announce the IALHEA Diversity Dialogue and Research Forum. It will showcase the scholarly work of underrepresented students from Illinois. The Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education (ICBCHE) and the Illinois Latino Committee on Higher Education (ILACHE) are involved in a collaborative effort to increase the participation of underrepresented students on college and university campuses across the state of Illinois.
www.icbche.org + www.ilache.com = IALHEA
The goals are to increase faculty student research collaborations; facilitate mentor relationships between faculty and students of color; to increase the persistence of underrepresented students in academia and enhance their research.
This year, IALHEA is partnering with the UIC Health Professions Navigator Program (HPN) to host a Breakfast Workshop for prehealth advisors. The goal of the workshop is to empower advisors by offering strategies they can use to encourage and support students who are interested in the health professions. The workshop will focus on students who identify as underrepresented minorities, as coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, or as veterans. Through panels, roundtable discussions and case studies, advisors will be provided with information to help their students be more competitive applicants for graduate or professional school.
