Dia de los Muertos
From pre Columbian times, El Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, has been celebrated in Mexico, and other Latin countries. Today it is celebrated throughout the America's during All Saints' and All Soul's Days (November 1 & 2). El Dia de los Muertos is a very special celebration in which the living lovingly remember departed friends and relatives.

Workshop Details
¡Qué Vivan Los Muertos! is designed to create a greater awareness for Dia de los Muertos and preserve the practice within a contemporary context. 

The workshop will:

• guide participants through a history of Dia de los Muertos
• describe the essential elements of a traditional altar
• provide hands-on activities to collectively create an altar.

Join us as we pass on the rich Latin tradition of celebrating this special day of loved ones lost and remembered.         

Registration Fee

 Instructor Information
Jesus de la Torre is an educator and social marketer focusing on cultural preservation.  Mr. de la Torre has a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Masters degree in Bilingual-Bicultural Studies. 

Mr. de la Torre currently works as a teacher in San Antonio and is the co-founder of Colectivo Cultural.

Dia de los Muertos Celebration
Visit La Villita October 28 - November 4, 2010 for The Day of the Dead Exhibit in Bolivar Hall.  Talented young artists from South San High School will display original "Dia de los Muertos" creations.  An awards ceremony will be held on October 29 in Plaza Nacional at 12 noon.  The artwork will be available for purchase through La Villita's shops and galleries from November 1 - 4. 

Be sure to visit Market Square October 23 -  November 2, 2010 for Los Altares del Mercado.  This public display of altars created by children from local schools, as well as local merchants from Market Square, is not to be missed!

Come back to La Villita and Market Square on Sunday, October 31, 2010 for a Dia de los Muertos Celebration.  The lively event features food, music, arts and crafts, and a dance and drum procession at 12 noon in Market Square and at 2:00 p.m. in La Villita!
