Farmer Soil Health and Conservation Cropping System Workshop 

A meeting for farmers and agency personnel to get an overview about how conservation practices can improve soil health and to get the farmers perspecitve on why they choose to farm with conservation farming systems

4:45 - 5:00 Introductions

5:00 – 5:20 Steve Cuddeback, Host Farm  Welcome and farm description.

5:20 – 6:00 – David Lamm- NRCS,  Conservation Agronomist, Soil Health Team Leader, National Technology  Center-East Region,  Soil health demonstration and how different management systems influence soil function.

6:00 – 6:30 David Brandt- Farmer from Ohio 900 acres of continuous no-till since 1971, corn, soyeans wheat, since 1971,  cover cropping in 1978 cereal rye, Austrian winter pea, oilseed radish and hairy vetch among other diverse cover crop mixes.

6:0 – 7:30  Farmer panel 

Don Branton (zone-till emphasis)   Klass Martens (cover cropping emphasis),  Steve Nemec (conservation cropping systems)  All can give brief history and description of farm and evolution of conservation planting and cover crops with emphasis on topic in parenthesis 20 minutes each.

7:30 – 7:45 Steve Cuddeback progression of farming practices from conventional to no-till and cover cropping.

7:45 - 9:00 Machinery demos including cover crop no-till planting, Aerway,  zone till equipment  explanation by Steve Cuddeback and dealers and  others. View cover crop mixes recently planted.
