Setting Professional Boundaries in a Changing Work Environment

Target Audience: Direct services staff (counselors, case managers, intake workers, teachers, teacher aides, etc.) in Community Action Agencies and other human services organizations

Fee: $35.00 for participants from Massachusetts Community Action Agencies; $45.00 for non-CAA participants

The pandemic has changed the way we deliver social services. Whether we are working remotely or in person with clients, professional and personal boundaries can be crossed which can influence the efficacy of services we provide. This 90-minute interactive webinar will familiarize direct services staff with the concept of “ACE” (Awareness, Communications, Enforcement) to recognize when personal and professional boundaries have been crossed. We will discuss how personal, physical, emotional and time boundaries are crossed and will suggest tools to manage those situations, while teaching clients a valuable life skill.  As a result of this webinar, you will be able to:
  • Apply the “ACE” method to effectively maintain professional boundaries during in-person or remote service delivery.
  • Encourage clients to incorporate the “ACE” method into their own lives, as an invaluable life skill.
  • Recognize the changes in how we provide services and communicate with clients since the pandemic, and how healthy boundaries can be set in any environment.

Facilitator: Tom Ellis, CPC, is the owner and operator of Tom Ellis Coaching in West Newbury, MA.  Tom is a former employee at a Massachusetts Community Action Agency where he counseled and coached youth and adults in education and training programs and in the last 30 years has held multiple positions such as a teacher, trainer, artist, counselor, case manager, IT support, advocate, hospice volunteer, mediator and his current role as Life Coach in various industries. In his spare time, Tom lives on a small farm that is home to alpacas, goats, chickens, ducks and some labs.
