Paint by Number: Finding Meaning in Community Assessment Data

Cost: $100 (lunch included)

CSBG Organizational Standards: 1.2, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4

Target Audience: Planners and other staff involved in data collection, analysis, and development of the 2018-2020 Community Assessment Report and Strategic Plan.

By now, most Community Action Agencies across the state are up to their eyes in community assessment data. As the feedback and numbers pour in, do you find yourself wondering what to do with them? In this four-hour, hands-on workshop, you’ll work with a research expert to learn how to analyze what your data is really trying to show you. You’ll learn how to analyze your data and begin developing evidence-based strategies that can have the greatest impact. Gain the tools you need to interpret the qualitative and quantitative information you’ve gathered---from demographic statistics to chats with clients and city officials---to paint the true picture of poverty in your community. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring in real-life samples of the data they’ve collected so far. There will be plenty of time for sharing and learning from your peers.

Presenter: Sara Chaganti, Institute on Assets and Social Policy, Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University
