Importing Basics 

A Must for Anyone Looking to Import

International trade offers excellent opportunities for both start-ups and existing businesses. 
This workshop, taught by accomplished and knowledgeable experts in international trade, will give you an overview of what it takes to run an enterprise involving global trade, particularly importing.

This workshop will cover:

  • The role of imports in your business model
  • The basics of international transactions
  • The role of freight forwarders and customs brokers
  • Terminology of the trade (INCOTERMS and others)
  • Harmonized Tariff System
  • US government agencies involved in international trade
  • Financing international trade transactions
  • Payment methods of the international trade (Letters of Credit, Drafts, etc.) their advantages/disadvantages and how they work

Instructors:  

Maurice Bretzfield: Maurice has been creating profitable Digital Marketing solutions for clients in their Internet development strategies since 1995. His clients have included Sony Music, The Walt Disney Company, Microsoft, MTV.

His 40+year career has given him deep knowledge of Business Management, Financial Planning, Information Architecture and all forms of Internet Marketing including Inbound Marketing. He has a strong knowledge of and vast experience in Outsourcing and Outsourcing Management. He began his career in International Trade in 1971. Maurice is a SCORE mentor.

 

Toni Corsini is Senior Trade Finance Specialist and NY/NJ Regional Manager of the SBA office of International Trade at the US Export Assistance Center. Toni was previously VP and Manager of Trade Services Marketing and Communication for North America at a large global financial institution. She is well known in the business and banking communities, having spent many years in trade finance as a VP for commercial banks in both New York and New Jersey and as an export manager in the manufacturing sector and has conducted classes in international trade and finance at leading corporations and universities in the metro area.  

William B. Skinner, III is a Certified Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist and Certified Export Specialist who also serves as an officer and board member of the NYNJ Foreign Freight Forwarders and Brokers Association. Bill organizes and runs the education program for the Association putting together seminars and other educational events for the members. Bill has been President of WB Skinner since 1998.
