STARTING A NONPROFIT: A PRACTICAL GUIDE

OVERVIEW:

THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE ABOUT THE REASONS FOR STARTING A NONPROFIT, THE LOGICAL STEPS TO FOLLOW, AND HOW TO KEEP ONE GOING.

GOVERNOR CUOMO SIGNED LAST DECEMBER THE FIRST CHANGE IN NEW YORK’S NONPROFIT LAW IN 40 YEARS. THE SEMINAR WILL OUTLINE SOME OF THE IMPORTANT CHANGES.

YOU WILL LEARN:

NONPROFITS, AFTER ALL, ARE JUST COMPANIES, BUT DIFFERENT. WE WILL SHOW YOU HOW, AND HOW TO MANAGE THE DIFFERENCES. AFTER THIS SEMINAR, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHY THE FOLLOWING IS TRUE, FALSE, OR SOME OF EACH:

  • THE CONSUMER BUYS THE PRODUCT;
  • PRICE COVERS THE COST AND EVENTUALLY PRODUCES PROFITS;
  • THE NONPROFIT MAY SPEND ITS MONEY HOWEVER IT WANTS;
  • PRICE COMES FROM SUPPLIERS’ CHARGES AND CONSUMERS’ ABILITIES TO PAY;
  • PROFIT DROPS TO THE BOTTOM LINE AND IS AVAILABLE FOR EXPANDING AND IMPROVING THE BUSINESS;
  • INVESTING IN INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVES EFFICIENCY AND PROFITABILITY; AND
  • OVERHEAD IS A REGULAR COST OF DOING BUSINESS, AND IT VARIES WITH THE BUSINESS TYPE AND MATURITY.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

  • INDIVIDUALS SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING STARTING A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION
  • PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS OF EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT (THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CFO AND CONTROLLER, PROGRAM DIRECTORS), AND PROSPECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS.
