It’s not all about the IRS: How to Best Represent Your Client through the NYS Audit and Collections  featuring Argi O'Leary, Former Deputy Commissioner at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance - December 14, 2022 - 6:30-8:30PM ET

 

In this session, you will learn tips from a former deputy commissioner at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for how to best represent your clients when dealing with NYS auditors and enforcement agents.  We will cover tools for representing your client through a NYS audit, including how to communicate with the department, streamlining audit inquiries, and options for resolving a case when the auditor doesn’t agree with your position.  We will also cover the collections process, including driver’s license suspension and offers in compromise.  This session will be interactive, so please come prepared with questions. 


Argi O’Leary is a Principal in the Advocacy Practice at Ryan, LLC, in New York, where she provides tax strategy and audit assistance, including tax issue negotiation and resolution, policy advice, and advocacy, for all tax types. Before joining Ryan, Argi was a Deputy Commissioner at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, leading the Department’s Civil Enforcement Division and Office of Professional Responsibility. She previously served theDepartment as an Assistant Deputy Commissioner, leading the Department’s litigation strategyin tax controversy, internal investigations, and employment matters.Argi is a seasoned litigator, having started her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office under the Hon. Robert M. Morgenthau. She then served as a Federal Law Clerk to the Hon. Thomas C. Platt in the Eastern District of NewYork and practiced law at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler, LLP, in New York City.To serve her local community, Argi volunteers her time as a Trustee for the Voorheesville Central School District Board of Education and as the Secretary for the New Scotland Soccer Club.
