Intellectual Property Law 101 for Businesses and Non-Profits

Businesses and nonprofits often own intellectual property.  This course will provide an overview of the different types of intellectual property: copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and patents.  How are they different and what do they protect?  It will cover trademarks and copyrights in greater detail, including how to register them, the cost of registration, pros and cons of enforcement, and how intellectual property is treated when created by an employee or an independent contractor.  This presentation has a focus on copyrights and trademarks registered in Washington State or federally in the US.

This workshop will be taught by Autumn T. Johnson of SoundLaw

"Autumn T. Johnson is the founder and chief legal officer of SoundLaw, a boutique law firm in Seattle that partners with small businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits to help them get established, grow, and succeed.  She can be reached at SoundLawOffice.com."

We now require pre-registration and pre-payment for all workshops. If you have met with a mentor, are in the SEAP program, or are registering for three or more workshops at once, please email us at greaterseattle@scorevolunteer.org for a discount code.
