Coaching for high integrity organisational politics and networking |
About the webinar
Coachees and mentees often bring corporate politics and networking as issues to focus on in sessions. Despite this, there is relatively little discussion or research on theseareas in the coaching or leadership literature. Many coaches and mentors feel uncomfortable or ill-equipped to deal with these subjects. Networking and politics are different, but the unhelpful beliefs underlying our attitudes to them are often the same, and we need a more nuanced approach to both. Based on my own experience and a literature review I will argue that we need to challenge common views on corporate politics and that we can maintain a position of being ‘appropriately political’ and that we can (and indeed must) engage in ‘high integrity politics and networking’. I recommend an approach that combines integrity with an honest view of real organisational life and can be ofgreat benefit to coaches, mentors and their clients and organisations. I will offer some simple thinking tools that coaches and mentors can use with clients to help them thinkabout and be more effective in organisational politics and networking. I will use the research and insights of Brandon & Seldman, Egan, Ibarra & Hunter, Hartely, Ferrazzi, Grant and others.
