HHS Region II Summit -
Opioids:
A Public Health and Public Safety Crisis
 

In response to the opioid crisis, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developed a strategy for fighting the opioid crisis which includes efforts focusing on five major priorities:

  1. Improving access to tratement and recovery services
  2. Promoting use of overdose-reversing drugs
  3. Strengthing our understanding of the edpidemic through better public health suveilliance
  4. Providing support for cutting-edge research on pain and addiction
  5. Advancing better practices for pain management

Through coordinated and collaborative efforts, communities are able to be better informed on the impact and equipped to turn the tide of this epidemic acheiving better health to those affected.

Summit Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of HHS priorities to combat the opioid crisis
  • Share promising and collaborative practices addressing the opioid crisis
  • Foster engagement and networking among Region II partners on this important public health issue

Target Audience:

Meeting attendees included federal partners, state, local and elected officials, mental health and substance abuse authorities, public health and public safety professionals, law enforcement, health provider agencies, community and faith-based organizations, and stakeholders addressing and/or impacted by the opioid crisis in Region II.
