Peninsula Bible Church Cupertino Men's Retreat

Prayer is hard for most people, especially men. In our current sermon series, Shawn has been walking us through the Lord’s Prayer. Our speaker Bruce Hindmarsh will be giving us some practical ways to pray. Here’s where he’ll be going in terms of different approaches to prayer:

1. Short Prayers: Learning to welcome God’s presence every moment of every day (like the Desert Fathers).

2. Fat Prayers: Learning to pray with confidence out of what we believe to be true and what the Bible teaches us (like the ancient Prayer Book).

3. Vivid Prayers: Learning to enter personally into the Scriptures, to see Jesus Christ, and to speak with him (like the evangelical hymn-writers of old).

More about Bruce:
He is the professor of Spiritual Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, BC, and his main area of research is Evangelical Spirituality. A former staff worker for Youth for Christ and an active lay member of an Anglican Church, he is married to Carolyn, and they have three children: Bethany, Matthew and Sam.

The PBCC pastoral staff were blessed to have Bruce and Carolyn teach them at their pastor’s retreat last Spring. Bruce led the pastor’s through three different approaches to prayer that have developed over the centuries of church history.  We are excited to have Bruce teach these approaches to prayer at this year’s men’s retreat as prayer is a critical part of our spiritual lives. Bruce also preached at PBCC last May. He did a sermon he entitled “Walking Trees.” Click on it if you missed it or would like to hear it again. Come to the retreat and help equip yourself with more tools for a more vibrant prayer life!
