INFORMED CONSENT

Online Tutoring refers to providing tutoring services remotely using telecommunications technology such as video conferencing or telephone.  Although there are benefits of Online Tutoring, there are some differences between in-person tutoring and Online Tutoring as well as some risks.

Online Tutoring sessions take place outside of the tutor’s private office; therefore, there is potential for other people to overhear sessions if you or your child are not in a private space during the session.  TLC tutors will take reasonable steps to ensure your privacy with updated encryption methods, firewalls and back-up systems, but you or your child should participate in tutoring only while in a room or area where other people are not present, you or your child cannot be interrupted and others cannot overhear the conversation.  Confidentiality still applies for Online Tutoring. Recording of sessions is prohibited.

Online Tutoring relies on technology, which allows for greater convenience in service delivery, however there are risks in transmitting information over the internet that include, but are not limited to, breaches of confidentiality, theft of personal information and disruption of service due to technical difficulties.

Prior to starting online tutoring services, you will receive detailed information on the required technology that is needed.

If the session is interrupted for any reason, such as if the technological connection fails, please disconnect from the session and wait 1 minute before trying to reconnect again.  If a connection cannot be maintained, the tutor will reach out as appropriate.

By registering, you agree to the online tutoring informed consent.
