First Response: When Crime Involves a Child

The reality is most Law Enforcement talk to more children in the course of their work than Forensic Interviewers.  This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of child development and how to talk to children of all ages. This course will also assist law enforcement to tailor their conversations to the child's ability by asking appropriate questions and avoiding suggestive or leading styles that are often the norm in police investigations.  During this course we will discuss the child as a victim, witness and/or suspect and how to remove potential blocks.  Case examples will be used and worked through class participation.

Targeted Audience:  Law Enforcement, CPS Investigators

Presenters:  Lanis Geluso, Special Victims Detective, VA Beach Police Dept. &
Michele Thames, Forensic Interview Supervisor, CHKD Child Abuse Program, Norfolk

Cost:  $65 (includes lunch)      Registration deadline: May 28
