The Indianapolis Chapter of CSI, along with the Indianapolis Chapter of DHI, in joint effort with the Door Security & Safety Foundation is having an Education Seminar at the Willows on Westfield on Thursday, January 19 from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
Doors and hardware play a significant role in life safety. The fire door assemblies, which are part of the building barriers, are essential elements in containing fire and smoke andplay a major role in both providing safe areas of refuge within the building, and in allowing the building occupants and rescue personnel time to safely enter and agress the buildings in times of emergency, based on the time limits designs.
With the recent CMS (Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services) adoption of NFPA 101 (2012 Edition), 2017 will present new challenges to provide education and training on the revised requirements of NFPA 80 (2010 Edition) for the care, maintenance and inspection of fire door assemblies, especially in healthcare facilities.
It is critical that code officials, building owners and facility managers understand the importance of providing and maintaining the protective barriers in the facilities. The building owners and managers must also be educated as to what components make up the barriers, adn how to maintain the barriers over the life of the building.
This presentation will help AHJ's and sesign professionals to understand NFPA 80 and NFPA 101 inspection requirements, as well as basic operation and features of fire and egress doors, in order to understand and verify inspection reports for compliance with code requirements.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the inspection /maintenance requirements of fire door assemblies.
- Identify the fire door assemblies within the building.
- Select, summarize, and inspect all the fire rated assemblies in the barriers per the life safety drawings.
- Education those who maintain the fire door assemblies in a facility.
About the Presenter:
Paul G. Baillargeon, AHC, FDAI, Technical Consultant
Since 1970 Mr. Baillargeon has been involved in the distribution and installation of doors and hardware, both as manager and owner of door frame and hardware distribution businesses, and was a Field Inspector for Intertek Testing Services for eight years. Mr. Baillargeon is an Architectural Hardware Consultant, a senior instructor for the DHI Fire Door Assembly Inspectors training program, and other DHI training programs relating directly to fire and egress doors. Mr. Baillargeon also conducts training and awareness presentations nationwide for the door and hardware industry.
