THE BEST SHOW IN INDIANAPOLIS

In 2015, CSI saw a shift in location for its Tradeshow.  For those who weren’t able to attend last year, the CSI group was ecstatic with the response they had from attendees as well as the exhibitors.  The J.W. Marriott proved to be everything the Indianapolis Chapter of CSI was hoping for in a host venue.  The central location of the J.W. along with its trendy amenities helped make the location for this year’s show an easy choice.

Taking what they learned from last year’s event, CSI was able to creatively re-design the show layout to increase our booth count to 91.  With all the buzz from the 2015 show, the Tradeshow committee is thankful that their exhibitors have responded, as it has sold the show out months before the event itself.

 With exhibitor group registered this year, there is a diverse range of products and services that will be showcased.  Attendees will have the chance to talk with representatives from companies that have a global presence all of the way through local, home grown firms that are more regional in nature. There will be an abundant amount of industry expertise ready to share their knowledge and experience.  Show attendance is exemplified by those in the architectural design or specification profession, interior designers, general contractors, sub-contractors, service providers, product suppliers, students, and other business’s as it relates to our industry.  Many enjoy the networking opportunities as well.

In addition to the show offering 91 booths, CSI is also hosting three – one hour CEU seminars through the course of the day. The seminars have been scheduled so that those interested in one or more CEU’s will have ample time to attend the presentations, and have time to visit the Tradeshow floor in the same visit. The education committee has worked hard to bring in presenters that will offer three distinct and unique topics that are sure create interest in the construction community:

Seminar 1 (2:00pm-3:00pm) -  Road Map for a Thriving Indiana

Description:

Mr. Klacik presents an analysis of the inter-related future of urban, rural, and suburban Indiana and how Indiana might win the domestic migration contest.  If Indiana continues to suffer from net outmigration and if population growth continues to lag behind the rest of the nation then demand for new construction, renovation, rehab, and the associated infrastructure will also abate.  Creating a social, economic, and quality- of-place environment that fosters learning and is attractive to labor talent while encouraging innovation is an essential ingredient in construction demand.  “Thriving Communities Thriving State” was a yearlong IU Public Policy Institute project that took on these issues and created a road map to a Thriving Indiana.

Presenter: Drew Klacik, Senior Policy Analyst, IU Public Policy Institute:

Drew Klacik, Senior Policy Analyst with IU Public Policy Institute, grew up in Northwest Indiana, is a graduate of Purdue University, has a master of urban and regional planning from Ball State University, and has spent most of his career working for the city of Indianapolis and at the IU Public Policy Institute to help collaboratively create a thriving Indianapolis, Central Indiana, and Indiana.  His principal areas of work have included economic development, state and local taxation, and affordable housing and neighborhood development policy.  Much of his work is focused on Indiana and trying to understand how these issues interact and affect the quality of life and economic vitality of metropolitan areas.

Seminar 2 (3:30pm - 4:30pm) - When Jobs Go Wrong - How to Address Changes, Delays and Catastrophes on a Construction Project

Description:

Not all construction projects proceed without a hitch.  Whether it’s contractually anticipated, financially allocated, or within the control of one of the parties – and especially if it’s not – events may occur on a jobsite which can turn a job upside down if not handled properly.  Such events can include change orders and constructive changes, differing site conditions, defective specifications, or even force majeure events.  If not planned for prior to commencement of the project, these events can be devastating to both the project budget and the schedule.  The key is not only how to avoid these issues altogether, but how to manage the process when they occur.  Being able to properly allocate risk in the contract and to follow the appropriate steps during the course of the project are critical.  Regardless of your role on the project, come learn how to how to properly and efficiently address changes, delays and catastrophes on a construction project and hear about case studies addressing the various types of issues.

Presenter: Christopher S. Drewry, Principal, Drewry Simmons Vornehm, LLP

Christopher S. Drewry is a Partner with the law firm of Drewry Simmons Vornehm, LLP, where he focuses his legal practice in the areas of labor and employment law and construction law. On the construction side, Chris represents all participants in the construction industry, including public and private owners, design professionals, general and prime contractors and subcontractors in all types of project delivery systems and performance and payment disputes, as well as contract drafting and negotiations. On the labor and employment side, Chris represents businesses in a variety of both HR issues – including general employment counseling, advice concerning hiring, discipline and termination, drafting of employee handbooks, personnel policies and employment contracts (including non-competition agreements), handling EEOC and related claims, and instruction on wage and hour compliance – as well as traditional labor issues – including grievances, unfair labor practices, bannering and striking issues, alter ego/successor liability, and wage and hour disputes. 

Seminar 3  (5:00pm - 6:00pm) - Concrete Moisture – Fact, Fiction, Reality

Description:

Concrete substrate moisture is and has been a top concern for the design/build community for years, and is now a multibillion dollar annual problem due to project schedule delays and disruptions to businesses and institutions. Despite the disruption to projects this issue causes, there remains significant misunderstandings across the design build industry regarding product warranties, field moisture tests, and just how long it takes concrete “to dry”. This course discusses how moisture vapor reduction admixtures (MVRA) enables the project team to specify a proven, proactive, cost - effective solution to each and every project that completely addresses the issue of lost time and money on failed moisture tests, and the subsequent exorbitant expense for topical mitigation systems.

Presenter: Dean E. Craft, President and COO, ISE Logik Industries, Inc.

Lt. Col Dean Craft, USMCR (ret.) began his professional career as an active duty Marine Corps officer in 1988 retiring July 2011, with 17 and a half active years and 4 and a half reserve years.  Since 2009, LtCol Craft has been deeply involved with the subject of moisture vapor reduction admixtures and the overall issue of moisture and flooring.  He has personally presented on the subject more than 500 times nationwide and has had direct involvement with at least as many projects.  He is a voting member of the ASTM Committee F06 on Resilient Flooring, is the principal author and technical chair for a new ASTM for flooring installation that is in the balloting process for approval, and is a member of the NRMCA’s Research, Engineering & Standards Committee.  LtCol Craft received his BS from the United States Naval Academy, his MS from the Naval Postgraduate School, and is in the dissertation-phase for a doctorate in business administration; his dissertation is specifically focused on the inconsistencies in the flooring industry’s approach to assessing concrete moisture prior to final flooring finish install.

The show will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 2:00pm - 7:00pm. The show floor opens at 3:00pm. The show floor will close at 7:00pm.
