The Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and Finger Lakes Community College are co-hosting a teacher training for the Finger Lakes Regional Stream Monitoring Network (FLRSMN). Participants will learn the importance of monitoring water quality of streams; will practice using the FLRSMN sampling protocols and techniques at a local stream; and will learn how to enter/retrieve regional stream data using the FLRSMN database. Science teacehrs for grades 6-12 and environmental outreach educators are encouraged to participate in this training.
Participants will recieve a certificate for professional development hours. Upon completion of this training, teachers will be eligible to sign out FLRSMN monitoring kits for classroom use and are invited to share their monitoring results at the 2017 Finger Lakes Institute's Science Fair held in May.
A portion of this training will take place outside at a stream location near the Finger Lakes Institute. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather (rain or shine) and bring close-toed water shoes, rubber boots or sneakers to get into the water.
