This Activity has been submitted to the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours.  Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Learn to thoroughly and objectively identify and document injuries secondary to trauma and to articulate the mechanism of injury.
  • Review the pathophysiology of non-fatal strangulation; describe signs and symptoms of strangulation; explain the link between strangulation and DV/SA; outline the multi-team approach and management of the non-fatal strangulation victim. 
  • Describe the principles of forensic photography and related record documentation.  
  • Have an understanding of the issues related to Human Trafficking both nationally, statewide, and locally; become familiar with the resources available to assist vicitms in southeastern Pennsylvania.
  • Obtain an understanding of foresnsic evidence collection from an FBI perspective.
