Workshop Description

Great college experiences and opportunities don't just happen by accident.  They are the result of years of smart and informed choices.

We all want what's best for our student's education.  However, sometimes there are challenges that get in the way.  Identifying those challenges and being proactive to address them will play a crucial part of your student's future academic success.  This special presentation will uniquely combine the standard presentation for this workshop PLUS added time to discuss the exciting opportunities to excel through the Congressional Award Program as well as some basics of Communication Skills.

This workshop, specifically geared towards 5th-8th graders, will give students the foundation they need to make smart and strategic choices in the coming years.  It is designed to motivate the students, give them a sense of ownership of their futures and much more.

Some of the topics we will cover include:

- Why they should go to college

- Differences between colleges & universities, state schools vs. private schools

- What it takes to get into a good college (grades, SAT's, extracurriculars)

- How to tell if a college is a good one or not

- How to start exploring career ideas

- The different type of scholarships and when/how to get them

- How to start applying for (and winning) scholarships as early as 7th grade.

- How to add that extra "punch" to your record through the Congressional Award Program

- The essentials of how to effectively communicate and interview

This event will be fast-paced, humorous and will use multimedia to keep the students engaged and focused.  A great choice for getting a student into that college-bound mindset!
