Let's Talk About Race: Confronting Racism on Behalf of Our Families

A workshop on December 11th at 7pm at the Barker Adoption Foundation

Over the past few months, the calls from parents asking for “help” have increased as parents of transracial adoptees become more aware of, and often disturbed by the realities of racism in our country.  This session is based on the premise that racism in the United States in 2017 is a real factor in the lives of our families and children.

During the workshop, the presenters will use a combination of providing information, facilitating reflection, engaging in real-life scenario-based role-playing, and fostering dialogue to help participants develop knowledge, skills, and strategies for engaging proactively as anti-racist allies and advocates for family members and friends of color.

Presenters: Jani North Saale & Jessica North Macie, are experienced trainers, white women, parents of an African-American child, and anti-racist activists with experience in education and engaging effectively in challenging conversations about race and social justice.

Cost: $30 for a single registrant and $45 for two registrants.

Audience:  This workshop was designed for parents of transracial adoptees who are seeking proactive ways to understand, identify & confront racism. Registration is open to all families regardless of constellation or whether Barker was a part of their adoption.
