4th Annual Texas Community Schools Summit-Houston: The Power of Connection

Texas is building thriving community schools! Last year we had dozens of schools from across the state come together in support of community schools. This year we're going even bigger with growing the community schools effort in our state and are welcoming hundreds of campuses to the movement. There will be opportunities to join us for Summits in Austin June 3-4th and Houston June 11-13th. Whether you are new to the idea of community schools or already have an effort underway, you’ll find helpful information, ideas and networking opportunities during the 3 day convening. You will participate in workshops led by nationally renowned experts in community schools, learn from panelists and speakers who have been on the front lines of this effort. Join us and come away with a plan for moving your vision of your school and community forward.

Our Houston Area Summit -The Power of Connection

Day 1: Summit Kickoff: The Big Picture on Community Schools in Texas

 Day 2: Understanding Your Role in Community Schools Planning, Support, and Implementation

• Full day of workshops exploring different roles and aspects of community schools
• Lunch Time Panel: Youth Violence Prevention
• Team Planning Time

Day 3: Pulling it Together as a Team

• Pioneer or Community Schools Awards
• Community Schools Mini Talk Series
• Team Workshops and Strategy Session

There will be no fee for the Houston Summit. It is possible that teachers will be able to count some of the sessions for professional development. Depending on your district, workshops may be counted for professional development days. Certain participants may be eligible for stipends through their schools or teacher’s union.

Individuals can attend the summit, be we encourage schools and districts to send working teams. With much of the time given over to practical planning of a community school, your team of 5-10 members may include:
