Farm Camp at Moonstone Farm

Date: June 1-4
Time: 9:30-3:30 daily

Kick off summer 2015 with a fun, adventurous, 4 day camp at Moonstone Farm! During this week on the farm we will learn all about the journey food takes from the farm to the plate! Through many farm activities, participants will have the chance to learn various concepts of agriculture: soil science, plant growth and harvest, insects and animal production. We will collect eggs from the hens, plants seeds, prepare soil and compost, and observe different micro-organisms in the soil under the microscope. Add some stories, games, and songs to the mix and it will be a fun filled, adventurous week on the farm!

Pioneer Camp

Dates: June 9-11
Times: 9:30am-3:30pm each day

Role-play homestead-style!  During these three days, we will participate in activities that would have been a necessity in the early days on a homestead: caring for animals, building animal pens, planting a garden, making butter in a wooden butter churn – we’ll even design and build our own model homestead cabin.  As we step into the shoes of the many people who have lived and worked at the Hutchinson Homestead, we’ll imagine life on a homestead with the eyes and ears of many different perspectives, sharing our experiences in a homemade journal.  Experience history on a ranch in a whole new way!

Animals on the Ranch

Dates: June 23-25
Times: 9:30-3:30 daily

Have you ever milked a cow, fed a goat, sunk your fingers into the fleece of a sheep, or held a chicken?  Get up close and personal with these animals as we spend three days studying the animals that are raised on a ranch: beef and dairy cattle as well as other meat, milk, egg or yarn producers like goats, sheep and pigs. We’ll learn about the adaptations of these animals as well the skills people have developed to use these animals for our survival. Taking care of animals is a rancher’s most important job. We’ll see how ranchers care for their animals and their land.

Farm Camp at The Meadows Farm

Dates: July 14-16
Times: 9:30am-3:30pm each day

Join Guidestone as Farmhands 2015 programs return to the Meadows and Weathervane Farm in Buena Vista for three adventurous days and first-hand experiences with agriculture! We’ll meet real-life farmers, learn where our food comes from, and we’ll help them to care for their vegetable gardens as well as for the chickens, sheep and goats that live on the farm.   Through hands-on activities, farm chores, crafts, games, songs and explorations, we’ll investigate the daily life of a farmer and discover how soil, water, sunshine, plants, animals and people work together to grow a variety of foods. Families will join campers for a harvest feast on the last day of the program.
