Where

This is an online event.

This beginner class is for people with a Canon digital camera who are interested in learning how to successfully use their camera beyond automatic/program modes. The class concentrates on the 5 essential camera settings that have the most impact on the look of a photograph: focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance. We also discuss how to interpret the image histogram, a camera feedback mechanism, and use that information to adjust and optimize image exposure for the next shot. Students learn how to adjust these settings using their own camera. The features and concepts discussed are relevant to all digital cameras including digital SLR and mirrorless cameras.

This class is limited to only Canon camera users to make it easier to address participant questions in this online class format.

We will setup a private, password protected "Zoom" video conferencing "meeting" for the class and will email you details regarding how to join. You need an internet connected computer/laptop with integrated/connected webcam, microphone and speakers to participate. There is no additional software cost to you to participate in the private video conference we setup for our session. The video conferencing platform is easy to use and key features will be explained in a complementary orientation briefing that last just a few minutes at the beginning of class.

Recordings of each class will be made available to class participants for replay. Additionally, participants receive PDF copies of each presentation, handouts, home practice exercises, and a quick reference sheet.

Participants will be invited to attend an optional field session following the class, weekend date and location TBD based on weather.

Workshop fee:

Early Bird Discount: $99 if registered by January 2, 2023, $125 if registered after January 2, 2023

Student Testimonials

"Mary Louise – Thank you! I am getting a lot of value from this class. Your teaching style is very effective and the examples are most helpful. While I have had my camera for over two years, I wasn’t really comfortable with it, and you have opened the door to its features, buttons and dials in a way that I couldn’t get from the owner’s manual or other sources. Thanks again for giving me back my enthusiasm for photography!" - Linda H.

“Love, love, love, her.  Really amazing ability to teach! Mary Louise’s passion comes through and is understandable.  Her ability to translate skill, passion and knowledge – phenomenal!” – Marji G.

"Mary Louise impressed me with giving everyone equal training time. She displayed great patience."

“Mary Louise is great - she obviously understands photography and all of the equipment so thoroughly that she can explain technical details to novices” – Jan W.
