Preceptor Workshop - December 2015

What is a Preceptor?

A preceptor is an experienced clinical practitioner who guides new employees, new graduates and students through the onboarding and competency validation process of unique clinical environments.

Assumption of this new role requires an additional skill set that includes refined skills in communication, feedback, support, and collaboration that go beyond current clinical expertise.

Studies reveal that new employees and students who have received quality precepting are much more likely to be retained in their positions. Additionally, the preceptors themselves report higher job satisfaction that translates into increased retention.

Bridging the gap between what a student learns in school and the real clinical world is increasingly challenging as our health care system becomes more and more complex. The same holds true for other practitioners who wish to change practice environments or positions.

Who should attend?

Are you a clinician who would like to expand your role and expertise to grow others around you with the ultimate goal of providing the highest quality care for your client population?

As an emerging leader, precepting can be the first step toward exploring the possibility of becoming an educator.

Some of the topics covered during the workshop include:

¨ Highly effective communication  techniques

¨ Feedback strategies

¨ Planning for quality experiences to enhance growth

¨ Collaboration with the school or human resource management office.

¨ Utilizing a strengths based approach, identify modalities that best match the learner’s needs

¨ Breakout sessions that address the needs of specific clinical specialties

And much more…

**Nursing participants who complete all 16 hours of the workshop will be eligible to receive nursing Contact Hours. **
